License 6.1 Release Notes

There is a new version of the PixarLicenseServer, License 6.1. Changes to the license server are enumerated below. For further information, please consult the Licensing documentation.

Bug Fixes

  • License servers running on Windows are no longer restricted by the default Windows "FD_SETSIZE" value and can now accept more than 64 license client connections.
  • Licensing sockets opened by applications on hosts which become unplugged from the network or suffer kernel panics are now forcibly closed by PixarLicenseServer in "livewire" mode after the system "SO_KEEPALIVE" timeout is reached. ÊThis prevents unusable open sockets from building up on the license server host, despite not receiving a "close" event from the client hosts.

License 6.0

New Features

  • RenderMan Studio contains a set of client applications to take advantage of the license server's new livewire mode, in which dropped client connections due to killed or crashed applications will cause the license server to immediately reclaim those client seats for use by other apps. The previous default license server behavior, using transient connections to reduce file descriptor usage, can be restored by adding -livewire 0 to the license server's invocation options.

Miscellaneous Changes

  • The response to the status command now includes the year, e.g. Jun 16, 2008 12:44:06 (previously, the output would be now: Jun 16 12:44:06. This may affect scripts that have been designed to automatically parse the license server output.<

Bug Fixes

  • Long-running applications (e.g. Alfserver) now properly pick up new expiration dates when a license is updated.
  • A bug that could cause renders of frames with very time-consuming individual buckets to occasionally lose their license has been fixed.
